The majority of students enrolled in colleges per state are in New York, wither over 120 thousand students.

This chart shows that that majority of private institutions have levels of enrollment below 2k, while the spread of student population per school is more evenly distributed at a 4 year public college. 

This chart shows sector of institution by zip code. Once can see a higher distribution of public universities in the southwest and along the Gulf cost than the northeast corridor. 

This map shows the highest aggregation of schools per geographic location. One can see a large number of schools in New England and the Carolinas. One can also see a smaller number of schools represented new Nebraska and Iowa. 

This map shows the most common settings for different types of universities. As you can see, masters programs are most popular in large suburbs and large cities, while little research activity is conducted in Fringe towns. 

Lastly we can see that public 4 year universities have higher rates of applications, admissions, and enrollment for graduate and undergraduate programs compared to private universities.
