# How to Create Word Cloud Visualization in Exploratory !(/Users/kei/.exploratory/projects/wordcloud_aad5dee8769a/markdown_output/image-1551152531953.png) The Word Cloud (or Tag Cloud) is one of the cool ways to visualize the text data. You can create a Word Cloud on Exploratory by using Note. I'm going to explain how to create it step by step using [the US State population data](https://exploratory.io/data/kei/6959190932894536). This data originally comes from the July 1, 2016 population estimate from ["the List of U.S. states by population"](https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_by_population) Wikipedia page. # Steps If you download and import [the US State population data](https://exploratory.io/data/kei/6959190932894536) EDF file, you will see a data frame "us_state_population". It is a very simple data frame with 2 columns, one is for US State names ("state"), and other one is for populations ("population"). !(/Users/kei/.exploratory/projects/wordcloud_aad5dee8769a/markdown_output/image-1525630091492.png) Once you import the data frame, you can go to the Chart view by clicking "Chart" tab at the top. In the Chart view, Choose "Word Cloud" for Type, "state" for Word and "population" for Color By. !(/Users/kei/.exploratory/projects/wordcloud_aad5dee8769a/markdown_output/image-1551153662873.png)! # Adjusting the Number of Words There are 2 ways to adjust the number of words. * Setting the max number of words * Setting the minimum frequencies to show ## Setting the Max Number of Words You can simply set the max number of words. For example, if you want to show 30 states, you can click the gear icon next to the Type and set "30" to "Max Number of Words" property. !(/Users/kei/.exploratory/projects/wordcloud_aad5dee8769a/markdown_output/image-1551153817527.png) ## Setting the Minimum Frequencies to Show You can also set the minimum frequencies to show the words. For example, if you want to show only the States which population is more than 1 million, you can set "1000000" at "Min Frequency for Words" property. !(/Users/kei/.exploratory/projects/wordcloud_aad5dee8769a/markdown_output/image-1551153642136.png) # Changing the Ratio of Rotated Words You can change the ratio of words with 90 degree rotation by changing the value of "Rotated Text Ratio". The value takes between 0 and 1. If you set a larger value, there will be more words with 90 degree rotation. For example, if you want to rotate 20% of words, you can set "0.2" at "Rotated Text Ratio" property. !(/Users/kei/.exploratory/projects/wordcloud_aad5dee8769a/markdown_output/image-1551153746132.png) # Changing the Word Size You can set the min and max size of the word size in pixel. Note that this is the size of "word", not each "character". !(/Users/kei/.exploratory/projects/wordcloud_aad5dee8769a/markdown_output/image-1551153873320.png) # Changing the Colors You can change the color palette in the Color Setting dialog. You can click the gear icon next to the "Color By" control to open the Color Setting dialog. !(/Users/kei/.exploratory/projects/wordcloud_aad5dee8769a/markdown_output/image-1551153648813.png) ----- # Try It for Yourself!
